Walnut Sculpture

Half way through the Celebration of Fine Art, the marathon show in Scottsdale Arizona.. Ken is working on a wood sculpture that is a complete lamination. He is currently working on the birds on the grill, since they are small birds he has modeled them in clay and started carving them. There are three sparrows on the grill, I think one or two will be have insects in their mouths...

Where Art Lovers and Artists Connect

It is always amazing to us, when someone connects with your work and purchases a sculpture without a sales pitch.. That is the best way for an artist to be inspired to create the next piece. It is even more amazing when a piece of art touches someone to the extent that the want to create another work of art (a written poem) to express their appreciation of Ken's sculpture. This has occur ed several times over the past seven years at the Celebration of Fine Art. When a work of art changes the way someone looks at life, that is a blessing.

An individual walked the show several days ago, and became consumed by a sculpture. We talked about Ken's love of the wood and wildlife and shared some of the stories about the sculptures. He came back today and dropped off his poem.. He utilized words in a way only a writer can make you feel, connected and totally absorbed, exactly how he felt when observed the sculpture, weaving this thoughts in and out of the sculptures.

Just another observation of the journey of art.

Setting Goals for Ken Newman Sculptures -2009 and Beyond

I just finished a book called Seeing David in the Stone...
FIND AND SEIZE GREAT OPPORTUNITIES USING 12 ACTIONS MASTERED BY 70 HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL LEADERS, by James B. Swartz, Joseph E. Swartz another couple Swartz's and Julie Thorpe. Great book for those who aspire for the stars!

So in the next couple days we will be the process of setting goals for the next five years... Over 10 years ago, we developed a 10-year plan...and in looking back at those goals most were met, some postponed and we are looking forward to the future...

In 2008, we met several goals - some lofty and some very simple.

Ken was elected to the Membership of the National Sculpture Society, an organization of representational sculptors based in NYC.

"Tale of Respect" was accepted to the 75th Annual National Sculpture Society Exhibition, we attended the opening in NYC, the sculpture also exhibited at the premiere sculpture garden in Brookgreen Gardens, Pawley's Island, South Carolina.

Ken was elected to the Allied Artists of America, an organization of artists (oil, watercolor, graphics, sculpture) based in New York City. His work has been accepted into this annual exhibition, three out of the past five years.

Ken chose gallery representation in Idaho at Galerie Belle Ame in Eagle Idaho and returned to Vista Gallery on the shores of Lake Tahoe in California after an eight year absence. His work is also at Golden Lotus Gallery in downtown Sedona AZ with fellow artist Nicholas-Kirsten Honshin who he met at the Celebration of Fine Art.

Ken's sculptures were accepted to over eight juried exhibitions, he won two awards - 1st Place Sculpture at the 26th Wallowa Art Festival in Joseph OR and the Leonard J Meiselman Memorial Award for Realistic Sculpture Executed in an Academic Manner at the 48th Annual Society of Animal Artists Exhibition.

We picked out a new lab pup.. Emma!

We added Kentucky to one of the last states to visit in the US, we still need to visit New Hampshire, Maine and Hawaii, we hit 250,000 miles on our Chevy Diesel.

Goal setting is not a typical artist task, but one that when explores leads to brainstorming and new opportunities...which again is part of the journey!
