Caught Working

Okay, Ken caught me working..actually stealing the wireless Internet connection from the neighbors... I bought this new computer, usually I order one and make sure it has everything I need, this one is without a modem..right who needs a modem anymore.. Looks like I will be going broadband soon. For now I am bumming the neighbors so I can stay up to date on the website, emails, blogs, reservations, etc. We head out on Tuesday for the National Sculpture Society Weekend in Loveland CO. We will take photos and post updates.

In the Redwoods

Beautiful weather on the coast today. Yesterday we had visitors from Minnesota and today Ken was busy helping a neighbor at his mom's with his new garden shed (the roof). Sometime soon they will be limbing redwoods, which is a real kick.

His son was climbing this weekend (see images). I will be sure to get photos when they start work. Last year he did the front acreage and this year the back ones close to the house.

Ken is working on three sculptures; the trout, Kenworth truck and 2nd curlew, so watch for updates, we leave next week to CO for the National Sculpture Society Weekend. Should be fun as well as educational.

In California

Finished at the Joseph Gallery and headed back to Idaho for a day before leaving for Ft Bragg CA, we will be doing several shows in CA, Walnut Creek-Art on the Main in May, The Marin Art Festival in June and a Vista Gallery-Working Artist Week in Tahoe Vista in early July.
The trout (Quick Sculpt) is still in process, and it looks like it will go to the foundry sometime in early July, (if you are interested in a precast price, give us a call). Retail will be approximately $2,000.

Since we arrived in Ft Bragg, Ken has been abalone diving three times. His son Derek was in town last week, they dove together. Today he dove, the water was a little murky, he wanted to get some spear fishing in, no luck, maybe it will lie down in the next couple days. The harbor seals are in abundance on the rocks with their newborn and the birds are working the bait fish outside the rocks.

Some exciting news, Ken’s sculpture Observing Grace was chosen for Birds in Art Exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau WI. The show opens in September. For details visit their website to the right.
Ken was also selected for the River Walk Sculpture Show in Little Rock Arkansas in October… Yikes, it looks like we might be on the road –Mid October through mid November, we have a show in Easton MD in November. The River Walk show is sponsored by The National Sculpture Guild in Loveland CO.

Bad news, Observing Grace was cut off its pedestal at Sculpture Walk 2009 on Sunday night in Sioux Falls SD. At first they thought it was stolen but it ended up in Police evidence; hope to find out the details soon.

We spent the weekend in Walnut Creek, doing a show called Art on the Main. Great Location, easy setup the only drawback this year was the 100+ temperatures. Reminded us of the Hillsboro show last year in June, in Oregon they had 100+ temps and people stayed home. At least in Walnut Creek they are used to the heat and they did attend, just not in the numbers in the past. We had a good show, reconnected with previous clients, met and sold to new ones. We have family in the area, so we were treated to wonderful food, company and accommodations, thanks to the Ventura’s and the Poettgen’s.

Quick Sculpt at Indigo Gallery

Ken is working on a quick sculpt this weekend at Indigo Gallery in Joseph OR. During the Gallery Art Walk last night Ken started the sculpture and plans to complete it today, or at least get it close to completion. This is a study for a larger sculpture.

Gallery Representation - Joseph OR

We are in Joseph OR at Ken's new gallery representation in Indigo Gallery. The gallery is at the base of the Wallowa's in a small tourist town and art enclave. Ken has been exhibiting at the Wallowa Arts Festival in the first week of June each year and those connections led to gallery representation at Indigo Gallery.

Joseph OR - Gallery Art Walk

Before we head out to the gallery we took a walk at the State Park in Joseph on the Wallowa Lake. Beautiful morning, fluffy white clouds, not like two days ago when Stewart the gallery owner told us it was snowing like a blizzard in December..
Our early morning walk greeted us to a pair of eagles nesting and one on a snag with a trout. Emma, was ready, willing and able to go after the stick in the frigid waters.

Getting Ready for the Gallery Art Walk in Joseph OR

Rain, Rain and more Rain. Ken is busy preparing for the Joseph Gallery Art Walk this Saturday.
He is finishing three sculptures, Sunseeker I, Sunseeker II, and Sunseeker III, bronze northern bobwhite quail on marble with copper leaves. Each one in the edition is different and this is 8/22. Sold the last ones over 6 months ago and he is just getting around to finishing the next ones for the summer show season.

He is also planning on doing a Quick Sculpt during the two days he is in Joseph, this is a tough exercise for him, he likes doing creative and not market sculptures, but it is always helpful to have a smaller piece available, so once a year he creates a smaller sculpture. He spent the last week going through his sketches and trying to find something meaningful to create. He wanted to do something other than a bird, so in the next two days we will see what he comes up with. I hope to take pictures at the gallery and upload them on the blog as the sculpture is created. I think it will be an exceptional sculpture.

Joseph OR is a mountain town at the base of the Wallowa's.. Beautiful in the spring and summer, there will be a fair amount of snow on the mountains this year and the pass we usually go through will be closed, so it will take about 4 hours to get there from Cambridge. Beautiful drive along the river and over a couple dams, Brownlee and Oxbow then into Halfway OR, through Baker, La Grande and over to Joseph. Check out the gallery.. http://www.indigogalleryart.com/

Gallery Art Walk in Joseph

This week we are preparing for the Gallery Art Walk in Joseph OR. We head there on Friday with the gallery walk opening from 3-7pm on Saturday May 9th. We will also be at Indigo Gallery on Sunday May 10 from 10-2pm. More details on the plans tomorrow.

Last year after the Wallowa Valley Arts Festival, Ken was asked to join Indigo Gallery in Joseph by Catherine Matthias and Stewart Jones. Stewart is an award winning jeweler and Catherine runs the gallery. This gallery addition will add to the three galleries that represent his work. He has been busy preparing sculptures for the opening and if the rain stops here by Friday, we should have a great drive over the mountain from Cambridge to Joseph.

If you have been enjoying the Art and Wine Pairing info posted over the last couple weeks, we plan to bring a bottle to the Gallery Art Walk... See the label below.

Working on Sunseekers-The Chickens Arrive

Ken is busy completing a couple small Sunseeker sculptures. Note the images, as soon as they are done I will post them. This is edition #8. The sculpture includes the northern bobwhite quail, marble, copper grasses and leaves on a walnut base.

Rain for the next several days here. We need it!

The chickens have arrived, or should I say the chicken and the Rooster... He wakes us up every morning between 5:30-6am. He is not the smartest Rooster in the bunch but they are pretty cool. She lays one eye a day.

There are 12 chicks, as soon as they get a little bigger they will be in the coop as well.
