In Crossville TN, visiting family and enjoying the peaceful morning. Weather will be in the 60's hope to rake a few leaves, enjoy the company and walk Emma, yesterday we spent 8 hours in the truck and it will be great to stretch our legs. A lot of images to download from the Buffalo River and info to write. Preparing a presentation proposal for the SAA 50th Annual Exhibition in San Diego next year and doing followup from the Sculpture at the River Market Show in Little Rock AR.
Ken started a small wood sculpture while at the campground in AR, so hope to upload some of those images too.

Arkansas - Sculpture at the River Market
We crossed the country from Idaho to Arkansas in two days to arrive in Little Rock for Sculpture at the River Market this weekend, www.sculptureattherivermarket.com . Setup was today, great venue as far as set up went, easy pull up and drop off. If you have ever been to a weekend show, you would never image the setup routine all the artists go through, whether they are local or coming from across country. Each artist approaches their booths with their own style. Watch for images tomorrow.
The venue is a covered pavilion located in downtown Little Rock right next to the river. There is a park running the length of the river front, providing a great place to play and run Emma (our lab). The night life in this area is vibrant, although the food service seems to close early us westerners..
Tonight is the opening receptions, wine, food and music and a celebration of sculpture. Starts at 6:30 and runs until 9pm. Each sculptor is limited to 15 sculptures and 1 miniature. Sponsors will be attending as well as others who support the arts in Little Rock. Show opens in the morning from 8am-5pm and it is FREE! This weekend is also the Race for the Cure, so 40,000 women, men and children will be converging on Little Rock. There is also a Farmers Market going on at the same time.
See you in Arkansas, if not watch for images in the morning.

1.75 Sqft of Forest Floor - Second Slide Show
Sculpted from a single piece of Aspen from Idaho, this sculpture is a reflection of the wood itself. The decaying..insect riddled wood regenerates the forest, there are signs of life, death, new life and existing life.
A must see sculpture, it will be at www.sculptureattherivermarket.com on October 17-18, a free sculpture show and sale along the river in Little Rock AR.
The sculpture will then be at the Easton Waterfowl Festival in Easton Maryland, November 12-15. www.waterfowlfestival.org
Each of these shows proceeds/sales benefit the community in which they are held. The three day Waterfowl pass is only $10 this year.. A community wide event! Check it out.

Slide Shows - Wood Sculptures
We started posting slide shows of wood sculptures in progress (to the right), the last one Three Corners of the Eddy was a commission for new client, Ed. We met at an art fair and was fascinated by the process and the end product, a unique one of a kind sculpture.
He wanted to commission a sculpture for a family member. We had the typical discussion on commissions, so much down without refund, and the option of choosing a size/price range and the species, Trout. He received photos while the piece progressed, accepted the final sculpture via digital image and it was shipped to Florida.
Of course, his sister and family were estatic when it arrived, crated. They were impressed by the engineering that went into the crate and was surprised to see their new addition to their mantel. Ed saw if several months later and said the images did not do it justice. So if you want to see Ken's sculptures visit a show, we travel the country, next trip takes us to Little Rock AR and Easton MD.
Three Corners of the Eddy is sculpted from redwood burl and if you look closely, all corners of the wood in the sculpture retain the raw edge.

Birds in Art and the Wall Street Journal

Every day, like most who monitor the social media, I check email, then twitter, the google searches, then start my list of to dos, this morning I found an article on the Online Wall Street Journal Article on Wall Street Journal about Ken's recent Birds in Art exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson's Art Museum in WI.
Checked out the article and there was quotes by Ken.. I called him in and asked him if he spoke to anyone at the show from the Wall Street Journal, he says "oh yeah, Ann". Well thanks Ann Landi for mentioning Ken in the article.
I then found an article on the Wildlife Art Journal about the show, so check it out... http://www.wildlifeartjournal.com/ look for the article on Birds in Art.
Interesting reading about wildlife art in the art realm.
