Always nice to be back in Idaho, I personally prefer the spring to winter and that is what it is now, 20 degrees and this slows down our progress in the morning. High today was 47 degrees.
Spent the last two days getting organized, packing show materials, rearranging sculptures in storage, moving carving materials and supplies to the back of the 5th wheel to prepare for a couple weeks of carving and base preparations for the Celebration of Fine Art Show. http://www.celebrateart.com/
Crating sculptures sometimes takes a lot longer than planned...remember we are a two person team and Ken does everything on the sculptures except the bronze castings and we typically do our own crating and shipping. No shipping department in this operation.
On the way home from our 40 day trip, we did metal check at the foundry on Forever Ready and A New Perm. Worked with Troy at Adonis Bronze on new patinas...it is a never ending process, but new castings mean sales and we were fortunate to sell several sculptures at the last several shows.
Check out new works on the website; www.natureartists.com/ken_newman.asp
Ken promised Emma a day out on the mountain, she is ready to chase the chukars.

Shore Lodge Show in McCall Idaho
Shore Lodge Show in McCall Idaho just opened for Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. A small group of artists calling themselves MAC - McCall Artist Connection, started a group to support and grow the arts in the McCall area. We are from a little south of McCall but joined the group as part of our presence in Idaho.
This is the 4th Annual Holiday Art Show in McCall at the Shore Lodge. A lovely venue on Payette Lake in the upstairs pavilion. There is a daily raffle that raises funds for the art group and there is a variety of art; Oil, watercolor, acrylics, photography as well as sculpture. There is a no-host wine bar as well as coffee and tea.. Come and enjoy the art and pick something up for your home or office.

Last Day in Easton MD
Sunday will be nice in Easton, the nor-eastern has moved up to Maine and the clouds should part today. The streets were full yesterday, and the buses that move people to venues all over the city were busy with visitors to the Easton Waterfowl Festival.
If you haven't experienced the Easton Waterfowl Festival and you are in the Maryland, DC, Virginia area you need to stop by. We had some people through yesterday who leave Easton each year because of the crowds, this was their first day at the festival in 20 years and they were wildly surprised at the changes and pleasantly surprised!
It's all about the birds, but yesterday we sold a figurative sculpture, nude in fact. See you in Easton today.

At the Waterfowl Festival in MD

Day one of the Waterfowl Festival just ended, great opening day considering the weather, although it stopped raining about noon, a little blustery but the next couple days should be nice. Ken's sculptures are at the Sculpture Pavilion Tent across from the Armory in Eaton MD. You might find it interesting that he is also showing his figurative sculptures, which is interesting and very well received. Just had dinner at THE PUB in downtown Easton. We enjoyed the company of Fred Boyer a sculptor from Montana!
It you are in the Maryland area, or even the east coast this is a great community show in Easton MD. check out their website at http://www.waterfowlfestival.org/ The show runs through Sunday, the town of Easton fosters this love of the waterfowl as well as the hunting tradition each year, this is the 39th Annual Festival.
Last week we visited the Ward Museum in Salisbury MD, featuring the Ward Brothers and their duck decoys as well as a number of wood sculptures. Great museum ... http://www.wardmuseum.org/ a must visit if you love the history of decoy as well as the early hunting traditions it is a great piece of history and a wonderful museum.
See you in Easton, Maryland!

Playing Catch up on our Travels

Visiting Family in TN We have made a couple trips through TN and always visit family there in Crossville, east of Nashville. Ken’s uncle was a model maker for GM, so after he retired he built some homes and carved. He passed away several years ago, but was able to take some photos of his work. We picked up some of the family tree revelations as well and found out exactly where his grandfather migrated to the US from Canada.
Falling leaves in the Smoky Mountains.Visited the Morrows in Cumming GA for the evening, great talks and memories of the Celebration of Fine Art and just plain old discussions of art and their journey. They found the Booth Museum, a western art museum just an hour away in Cartersville GA and have enjoyed the social and cultural activities and collection there. One day maybe they will chronicle their journey in the art world as well as their travels.
Kenny wanted me to capture the leaves falling at
the Smokemont campground just north of Cherokee TN. Not sure I captured the amount of leaves falling, but I think the wind is bringing with it some rain. Plan to stay here through Halloween and then make our way northwest to see some artist friends (scratch board) who recently moved from WY to TN.

Footprints at Tyler Bend in the Buffalo National Park in Arkansas
Took a hike along the river (dogs are not allowed on trails-only improved roads). The rangers say they are a dog friendly park, but you can’t leave them in the campground to hike, so what are you suppose to do. You can take them off trail???? Apparently dogs are considered predators here. We are staying on the roads, and off the trails, Emma’s on leash even in the campground. This is her first camping trip without the RV. I think she is enjoying being outside all the time. We stopped by Wal-Mart in Conway AR, picked up a lantern, tent and stove, since our last ones were given to the boys when we purchased the RV years ago. For under $200 we are fully equipped with a 7 man tent and all the camping tools.
The last two days have been beautiful and in the 70’s, fall is settling in and thunderstorms are coming in tomorrow so we are going to head out south and find another site before we head onto TN.
Took a lot of photos, hope you enjoy the footprints on the river and the fall leaves in the next blog. I also will be posting a swimming squirrel slide show.
