Oak Chairs for Sunday's Dress - Sculpture
Ken is busy creating oak chairs for Sunday's Dress. Each chair is created individually, hand doweled, hand sanded and finished for each sculpture. The chairs need to be completed prior to casting bronze, so that the waxes are fit to the chair before they are cast. Usually, it takes a couple days to create five chairs, this time it has taken over a week, with the cold weather, drying time was delayed. Below is the finished sculpture-American Pi - Sunday's Dress.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!
It looks like the snow might stop soon. Over 10 inches of pretty heavy snow, with 4-6 more inches tonight. Suppose to warm up tomorrow. I spent the day stamping, sealing and mailing our December newsletter. Hope to post it on line in the next couple days. The checklist of TO-DOs is getting smaller and Scottsdale is looking closer.
Emma, the lab flushed and then returned her first pheasant a couple days ago. Ken and her have been walking daily in the fields, she couldn't figure them out. Ken was happy to get a couple weeks with Emma in the fields before we head south. She has such a good nose, but apparently the pheasants are more intellegent than the grouse or chukar. Now I need to find a receipe, it's been over 8 years since I have prepared a pheasant.
Ken is off working with a local welder on a new pedestal design for a wood sculpture. He is also completing a new small wood sculpture, inspired by our fall travels. It always amazes me how he works in wood.
So much to do before we spend 70 days in the big white tents at the Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona. http://www.celebrateart.com/

2 degrees! Go Broncos!
Well, nothing like Sculpting on the Road in sub-zero weather. Last year we left for Arizona in a minus degree temps, but a clear road situation. This year we get back just in time to weather sub zero temps in Idaho and deal with all the problems of living in an RV. Ken's having a hard time focusing on sculpting in this weather, I am having a hard time keeping my computer warm.
Frozen waterpump, frozen water lines are only a few of the challenges, oh, what would life be without challenges. Emma got to jump a couple quail yesterday, so she is happy. Her winter coat is just starting to come in and she will be losing it once we hit Scottsdale. We will survive, we may be heading south sooner than in the past.
Most of Boise will be heading south about the same time, hey how about those Broncos!

Birds in Art Opens at the Muskegon Museum of Art in Michigan
Just received the postcard for the opening of Birds in Art at the Muskegon Art Museum in Muskegon MI. The exhibition runs from December 10, 2009 through February 14, 2010. This is the first venue on the museum tour which runs through 2011. Ken's sculpture Observing Grace, a bronze curlew was chosen for the tour.
A quote from the postcard:
"The 60 artists from the United States and 10 other countries represented in the Birds in Art exhibition have created a microcosm of the world's fascinating avian diversity using their bird subjects as metaphors, to make ecological statements, or simply as objects of beauty. Whether the subjects are backyard feeder favorites or exotic species from around the world, an international cast of artists interprets avian themes and habitats employing diverse styles and mediums. Each work reflects the universal appeal of birds and their tradition as a source of inspiration."
If you are in the Michigan area, be sure to visit the exhibition; http://www.muskegonartmuseum.org/
