When young, we develop certain expectations of our direction in life. Through life’s journey of twists, turns and forks in the roads, one’s path becomes almost unimaginable from that original vision.
To reflect on one’s art is to reflect on one’s life. From a very blue collar beginning and a refusal to even pick up an artist pencil, to a life dedicated to art and its pursuit. On this journey, a path taken 9 years ago brought us to the Celebration of Fine Art. An “Artist World” into and of itself with 100 working artist under one expansive venue. A departure from a past life; as extreme as leaving Idaho at 15 below only to arrive in Arizona at 70 degrees above. As a sculptor and person it is a place to prove your worth. A place to grow, expand and develop one’s medium. A place to learn, share, explore and improve. Above all, a place to connect with people of like minds who have a love of art, for this is the lifeblood of the Celebration of Fine Art.
And to strengthen that pulse, a unique blend of sculptors, painters, jeweler and friends have banned together to form the Northwest Salon, in an effort to maintain a high standard of integrity and further elevate, motivate, collaborate in our desire to be the very best. My hope to the NW Salon is that it sparks an energy with collectors, patrons and other artists in developing a unique and exciting experience while connecting to art and the artists.
Please visit the NWSalon website and blog, each of the artists will share with you their journeys as artists. In these times, we are able to expose our works, passions and travels to cyberspace, we hope you visit often.

An Earth Day Sculpture - Remnants of the Past
Mile High Sparrow
When limited edition bronzes were added as a medium to the inventory, it was not long before the desire to engage the viewer with the mixing of mediums. I just couldn’t let go of the edition. Each could become very unique. A direct reflection of my journey over a short period of time; geographical, friend, family and the road.
The sparrow sculpture is based on the spring dance of the male sparrow. They became a great vehicle to reflect on the mating/dating efforts chosen by the male species. Mile High is a result of walking the desert after a heavy rainstorm. The runoff has eroded an area exposing some remnant of the past, trash, Coors® cans (pre 1969) having a seam on the side and church key opening. For me one of these cans was a great reflection on alcohol and dating.
Is this where courage and confidence can be found? Oh, what anxieties a female can rise! As one can tell the can was opened on the wrong end. Was this nerves, or one too many? Oh, what anxieties a female can rise! You can only wonder what actually happened in the desert, oh so many years ago.
This sculpture was exhibited at the Society of Animal Artist's "Small Work - Big Impressions" at the Wildlife Experience in Parker CO. It found a wonderful home with a good friend.

Paperwork...and Packing
Always fun this time of year, preparing paperwork/images for upcoming exhibitions, summer shows and taxes consume most of my time. Ken keeps sculpting. The people in the RV park are enjoying watching his progress on the figurative sculpture, many stop by daily to talk. He is not nearly as grumpy as in past years. We have spent a couple extra weeks in the Phoenix area before heading back to Idaho for a couple weeks.
Last night, had our final goodbyes and a wonderful dinner at the RV Park with artists/spouses from the Celebration of Fine Art. Weather a little windy, but nice. Ken will start packing the back of the trailer for our trip home. A two day trip and 1,100 miles back on the road.
