Crating and Shipping Sculptures for Museum Exhibitions

Whether it's small or large, crating sculptures for museum exhibitions takes a complete day away from sculpting.

Living in a rural area requires Ken carpentry skills to create crates for 20lb to 200lb sculptures.Crate are made out of 3/4 inch plywood and 1x3's. Dense foam is used and creating 2x4 supports is an art in itself.
It is all in the details. Ken is off to Boise today to pick up crating supplies.

Observing Grace and Composed bronze curlews, are heading off to museum exhibitions next week. Between shows, crates are being made to accommodate their safe travel to The San Diego Natural History Museum in San Diego, California and the Woodson Art Museum in Wausau WI.

Ken even came back with the smaller crate foamed in. He is now saving his pennies to purchase the machine. A man can never have enough tools!

Artists in Action at the new McCall Art + Commerce Center in Idaho

An ambitious project in McCall is now ready and last weekend's Artists in Action event was the first of many events to come for the community to enjoy. The vision was an Art Center Complex in McCall and over a period of three years the concept was developed an implemented. Although not entirely completed, the concept was to build a place where artists could come, live, work, teach and sell art. Idaho natives, Dave and Donna Armstrong originally from Twin Falls-love the arts and their vision is coming to life. The new non-profit The Artists' Community Center is in the works to support and grow the arts in McCall. The organization seeks to provide a facility which can be utilized by individuals and groups for arts and cultural education, community enrichment activities and other community gatherings for the greater McCall area.

Goals:

Provide a functional space for local artists and for arts and educational activities.

Encourage high-caliber non-local professional artists and educators to teach, perform or present in McCall by providing an affordable venue.

Provide a space to enable emerging artists and organizations to experiment, plan, collaborate and develop their work

Encourage citizens to embrace the arts as a significant component in the McCall area's economy, culture and identity.

Serve the greater McCall area by providing an inclusive, celebratory venue for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Below are images from this weekend event; Artists in Action where visitors interacted with local and regional artists.

Work at the Foundry - Another Part of a Sculptor's Journey

Spent two days at Adonis Bronze near Salt Lake City to do metal check and patina on ten sculptures. Here are some images from the foundry. The bronze process is time consuming and the foundry workers worked hard to meet Ken's high standards. Several of the sculptures are heading to museum exhibitions. Thank you Denny and the Adonis foundry staff for going the extra mile. :}
