It's September - it must be time to hit the museum exhibitions!
It's always fun to head out to museum exhibition openings in the fall. This year we started off to San Diego for the 50th Annual Art and the Animal Art Exhibition at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Ken's sculpture Observing Grace, a bronze curlew was chosen for this exhibition.
Emma (our lab) caught kennel cough and had to quarantined her in Mission Viejo with family while in California. So our trip to San Diego was cut short as we traveled back and forth 70 miles to check in on her. She is fine, a slight case since we had given her a vaccine prior to her kennel stay last month in Steamboat Springs CO.
Animal artists through the country including many international artists converged upon San Diego, there were whale watching, wild animal park and zoo trips for those wishing to view animals, but for many it was a time to catch up with others who love to portray animal art and discuss the nuances of the animal/wildlife art genre.
The Society of Animal Artists is a organization in transition...as a recently formed 501c3 (just over five years) it is finding it way in facilitating and advancing the genre in this new technological driven society. The museum hosted speaker/artist Robert Bateman who spoke about the importance of getting kids outdoors and connected to the environment. Check out Connecting Kids to Nature for an engaging lecture in October.
Many artists have written about the Society of Animal Artists Exhibition Opening and below I have included some of the links to get a better idea of the exhibition weekend and activities. SAA Blog Robert Caldwell Joni-Johnson Godsey Wes and Rachelle Siegrist . Enjoy!
Next we are off to 35th Birds in Art International Exhibition at the Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin, www.lywam.org. Many artists from this show will be flying across the country for the opening weekend of activities.

Spent some time in San Diego at Balboa Park, which if really explored -- it would take over a month to enjoy all the aspects of art, science, architecture and plant life in this oasis.
It truly is a "Landscape of Art and Culture".

September was Art's Month in San Diego and the city was vibrant with ART. A diverse cross-section of arts and culture programs were showcased throughout the month with participating galleries, artist-run initiatives, public art museums, performing arts events and festivals. The month's events kicked-off with the ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair, which we attended on September 3rd at the Hilton Hotel. We also enjoyed the 40 galleries and numerous guest speakers who focused on collector education and needs (a novel thought) with video coverage by ArtPulse TV .
Other events included ArtWalk by the Bay, Art of Photography Show, San Diego Film Festival, and a world-class exhibition organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Downtown called "Viva La Revolucion" which will feature the work of 20 world-class street artists. Of course, there was also the reason we were in town, the 50th Annual Art and the Animal Exhibition at the San Diego Natural History Museum.

NW Salon - A Unique Collaboration
Welcome to the Northwest Salon at the Celebration of Fine Art http://www.celebrateart.com/ in Scottsdale, Arizona. We are a unique collaboration of artists that celebrate the creative spirit through dedication, integrity and friendship. The show is open seven days a week through March 28, 2010. We have now all traveled home for the rest of the year. Please visit the BLOG on this site or visit the links to our websites for more information and images of our work.
The Salon (French: Salon), was the official art exhibition of the Academie des Beau-Arts in Paris, France between 1748-1890. It was the greatest annual art event in the western world.
The Northwest Salon is the revival of a concept that celebrates the gathering of artists, patrons and the exhibition of high calibre fine art. We come together each year for 10 weeks the northwest section of The Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Each artist migrates to Arizona each year from their corner of the country, three from Idaho, one from Montana, two others from North Carolina and one from Canada. Please check out their journeys and visit their websites. January 2011 will be there before we know it and these artists will be migrating like the cranes to the winter sun of the southwest.
